Children with ADD may experience difficulties in four broad areas: INATTENTION / DISTRACTIBILITY
IMPULSITIVITY / BEHAVIOR DISINHIBITION
HYPERACTIVITY / OVER-AROUSAL
DIFFICULTY DELAYING GRATIFICATION
The primary characteristics of ADD are not difficult to recognize in the classroom. However, not all children who are inattentive, impulsive, or overactive have ADD/ADHD. These same symptoms can be a result of other factors and circumstances in a child's life. For this reason, it is extremely important that an accurate diagnosis be made. At the Behavioral Medicine Center's ADD Clinic, a comprehensive assessment involving the parents, teachers, and child will be used to determine whether problems are the result of ADD or other factors. TREATMENT APPROACHES FOR CHILD
For maximum benefit, it is recommended that parent counseling, behavior management, and educational follow-up be utilized when medication is administered. ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER IN ADULTS Individuals with ADD exhibit persistent patterns of inattention and sometimes overactivity and impulsiveness that are more frequent and severe than would be expected for their age. An attention-deficit disorder is a pervasive problem affecting all areas of the individual's interaction with the environment. PRESENTING COMPLAINTS OF ADD ADULTS
